Florida First Lady launches new website to provide essential resources for patients – 104.5 WOKV

Jacksonville, Fla. – After surviving her battle with cancer, Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis says she knows how scary it can be to hear your doctor say you have cancer.

The First Lady is launching a new FLCancerConnect.com website to provide all Floridians with a variety of resources to help patients and families navigate their journey.

The four cornerstones of the website are built around prevention, treatment, caregivers and survivors.

According to DeSantis, “It’s literally a comprehensive resource that contains everything from prevention and research resources, to treatment and provider locations, to how to navigate coverage when dealing with insurance.”

His initiative is joined by the Florida Department of Health and the Agency for Health Care Administration to combine research, cancer screenings and a sense of community for patients and their loved ones, during difficult times. The website contains several survivor stories to inspire people with cancer to keep fighting.

“The more you know, the more you know where to go, the more you know about resources and drugs — the better your chances of defeating this thing,” DeSantis says. “And, I’m here to tell you today that you can beat that.”

Florida Cancer Connect’s goal is to be a one-stop-shop for common questions, concerns, and needs for people with cancer.

DeSantis also allows friends and family, who support the patient, to find their own community.

“Caregivers – those people who support those battling cancer, also need support. They need to know how I do this,” she says.

You can also find local doctors, treatment centers, prevention programs, and information on how to find the best insurance coverage for your medical needs.
