Men arrested with guns approaching shopping mall

Chatsworth Police arrested two suspects for possession of illegal firearms and ammunition last week.

Chatsworth SAPS communications manager Cpt Cheryl Pillay said: ‘The arrests were made after police received information from an informant that the suspects were in possession of firearms and were approaching of a shopping center.”

During the search of the suspects, the police seized a special silver 38 revolver with 10 rounds and a pistol with 33 rounds.

“The police will hand over the firearms for ballistics analysis to establish whether the firearms were used in the commission of other crimes,” she said.

Chatsworth SAPS Station Commander Brigadier Ruth De Villiers praised fellow officers for the successful arrests and removal of illegal firearms from the streets.

“We urge community members to speak out against the proliferation of firearms in the police station. Efforts to combat this proliferation contribute to a safer society, as criminals use firearms to commit acts of violence. The police guarantee anonymity to whistleblowers,” she said.
