Shallotte Shopping Center is building an apartment complex

The Coastal Walk Marketplace in Shallotte is looking for more tenants, but no new businesses.

The Shallotte Board of Aldermen this month approved a special use permit allowing Coastal Walk developers to build multi-family housing behind the mall.

Initial plans call for a 3-building, 80-unit apartment complex on the 7-acre site off Northside Drive, north of the Hobby Lobby.

The site plan will still need to be approved before the project can go ahead. No traffic impact analysis will be conducted.

A car drives along Bricklanding Rd SW past the proposed 311-acre Brunswick Pines development in Shallotte, North Carolina, Wednesday, April 20, 2022.

The master plan for another major development, Brunswick Pines, was also approved at the same meeting.

The 311-acre, 570-unit project north of Bricklanding Road and Hale Swamp Road will be built in four planned subdivision phases. Each subdivision will also have to be approved by the town planning council before construction.

The project will require traffic improvements to the area, including the addition of traffic lights where Bricklanding Road meets Village Point Road and at the entrance to the development.
